Skelton: Durham Police - bobbies down by 116

Cuts in local Police numbers are making a mockery of Government claims to be“tough on crime”, with only the Conservatives prepared to take the tough
action necessary against crime in North Durham.

Figures revealed this week show Home Office cuts have forced Durham Police to reduce Police numbers from 1,705 in 1997 to 1,589 today. There are further cuts are planned in the next two years.

David Skelton, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for North Durham said “It is ordinary, hard working people who suffer the most from these cuts.
Our taxes are up but we have been robbed of our local bobbies.

“For all this Government’s spin and about being tough on crime the harsh reality is fewer police and more crime.”
