This week it was announced that 80 post office branches across Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and County Durham face imminent closure. St. Anthony's Post Office in Newcastle is now also proposed for closure.
Commenting on these reports, Newcastle Conservatives (http://www.newcastle-conservatives.co.uk) spokesman Barry Flux said: “This closure programme could have been stopped had local MPs supported our motion. It was incredible that local MPs claimed to want to help local residents save their post office when they had failed to be counted where it counted: in Parliament.
“Jim Cousins, Doug Henderson and Nick Brown voted for the closure programme to continue and bear the responsibility for every constituent who will find it difficult to access an alternative post office.”
