Last Friday, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for South Shields Karen Allen met with Peter Davidson, the Chairman of the South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust and Executive Director Helen Ray, who is responsible for business development, GP liaison and risk management. Peter and Helen gave Karen a tour of the newly refurbished Stroke Ward and the Cardiology Ward.
The Trust Executive which is made up of a health care professionals from a medical and business background have worked successfully to produce excellent results at the hospital. South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust has consistently ranked as one of the best by the organisations by regulators.
Karen commented: "I was given a tour of the hospital's newly renovated 20 bed Stroke Ward. Designers worked in conjunction with Doctors, Nurses and Therapists to ensure they had the constructive input to maximise patient rehabilitation facilities. The rooms on the ward are single sex and each has an en suite bathroom. This maximises patient comfort and dignity, which when put together with the dedication of the hospital staff greatly enhances patient rehabilitation. Therapists explained to me the therapy scheme they have set up for visitors to read with patients which again has been shown to aid recovery. I wish the Trust all the best with the future renovations work planned at hospital."
