Following the devastating floods in Morpeth, Shadow Floods Minister Anne McIntosh MP congratulated the community spirit and the work of the Emergency Services which she feels will play key roles in the town's recovery.
Anne visited Morpeth on Thursday to see for herself the damage that had been caused by the floods and to hear from residents. During an interview for the BBC Politics Show, she was asked if she had a message for the town. Anne replied "I would like to congratulate the people of Morpeth for their community spirit. The volunteers, Town Council, Emergency Services and Environment Agency have all worked extremely hard.
"We will not forget about the people who have suffered here, and I want to reassure them that they are uppermost in everyone's mind. I will be making further visits to Morpeth to see the progress and to make sure this area is not overlooked."
Anne was accompanied on her visit by the leader of Castle Morpeth Borough Council Peter Jackson and Berwick-Upon-Tweed Parliamentary Candidate Anne-Marie Trevelyan. Earlier, on a visit to Rothbury, Anne-Marie said "I really feel very deeply for the loss and intrusion these people have suffered. To lose property and family possessions is everyone's worst nightmare. I admire their resilience under such circumstances."
