Social Action project launched

 James Wharton Ian Galletley

Two local Conservative Parliamentary Candidates have come up with a novel idea for helping people who find letter writing difficult.  James Wharton, who is standing for Stockton South, has teamed up with Ian Galletley, who is the Tory candidate for Stockton North in a Conservative Social Action Project.
Together they have created a new version of an age-old idea.

They offer a letter-writing facility for anyone who can't quite think of the proper words to say.  Ian saw this at first hand when he worked for Oxfam in the Middle East.  'Out there a scribe is a well-respected person, sometimes with just a battered old typewriter, who will  produce an appropriate letter for anyone. I'm sure there are many people who find letters difficult, even if they can read and write perfectly well. '

James said that he and Ian are pleased to have updated this with a computer and enjoy helping others in an unusual way.  'We are not an advice service', he said.  'The Citizens Advice Bureau is the ideal place for that.  However, we can help people turn out a well-presented letter in the right English.  All we ask is that you make a small donation to a local charity in return.  The service we offer is entirely confidential.  The response we've received has been very encouraging and we're glad to help local charities by our efforts.'

The service operates on Monday mornings at the Conservative office, by appointment.
