Tourism is very important to the local economy in North Tyneside and Wendy took the opportunity to lobby Shadow Minister for Tourism Tobias Elwood MP, and Mark Simmonds MP about challenges facing the communities along the North Tyneside Coast.
Speaking to Gerry Foley from ITV Tyne Tees, Wendy said “For me, Conference is a great opportunity to update Shadow Ministers about Tynemouth, and also to have meetings with key players from across the region.”
Conference kicked off with the latest social action project, aimed at giving communities a hand-up ahead of a hand down. Kids from the Welsh House Farm estate got together with the Conservative Party and the FA for a football match, the benefits of which will be felt well beyond the final whistle.
Wendy was on the touch line and said “I know how important these projects are. I see it regularly when I help at the Brierdene. Today I came to see the work being done in other parts of the country. It’s brilliant to see the kids here having such a great time.”
